I think they have a very WEIRD body of work – Final Crisis was actually my introduction to them because I read the original collected as a kid when it came out. I'll just briefly say that DC has consistently the worst quality books *physically* because that book fell apart in literally three months

you can directly compare Moore's portrayal of the victims of Jack the Ripper to other more "true crime" accounts which focus on the brutality or sensationalism of the act rather than treating them as people

yes!!! I think FROM HELL works so well because Alan Moore did a stupid amount of research for the project, on top of his general commitment towards digging into details where other (lesser) authors would try to go broad and for swinging for the fences where other authors would try for a bunt
