Weirdo on a bike. IT stuff. Getting old but undeterred.
One day I'll be brave enough to try replacing parts of my PowerShell behemoth with functions, but #region tags just improved my life dramatically. Kinda enjoying relearning how to make magical things happen in code.

Incredible keynote demo: the CEO of LinkedIn can get his schedule from Copilot! Wow! So ready for the future where there are...calendars.

PowerShell ISE experiment lasted all of a minute. Code that worked great in raw PS threw errors. Switched to VSCode + PowerShell extension, per recommendations here, and it's so much friendlier. Thanks, fam!

and on the 7th day, he remembered PowerShell ISE exists. I've been doing this thing 1996-style.

Any proposed solution that includes "just" is an automatic 🚩🚩. It's a marketing word that makes it seem that problems can be solved simply with novel thinking. "You just enable this setting..."
Most (good) solutions are proposed not by newcomers, but by people who understand an issue deeply.

There are exceptions, of course, but generally, if a solution seems "obvious", it's because you don't understand the problem as well as you think. 🧵

The VW Atlas is actually a micro SUV that only appears large because of Mercator projection.

Given 2 days to read 300+ pages of documentation and churn out a generic SoW for a project, I was told to make Copilot do it. Have now lost an entire day and have almost nothing to show for it. Are we all better at our jobs now?

Starting my day old-school with a bit of security analyst work. So oddly soothing to pore over logs and chase details. I don't miss the stress of active investigations, but it felt good to do something meaningful again.

I'm trying to reply to a simple email and all the damned Copilot interruptions are killing me. Just let me write a f*ing message--I DON'T WANT YOUR "HELP".

Just sat through a great session at @rvasec.com on why not to use private "unresolvable" DNS zones for your internal network. TLD'S like .ad & .ms are public, and if you haven't registered your company.ad internal domain space, someone else might. #purpleteam

i keep seeing people say that LLMs are good at search.

NO. WRONG.

You have just forgotten how good search used to be.

Google broke it's own flagship product, and so you are accepting a demented chatbot's half baked gishgallop because we no longer have functional web search.

Lord of the Dicks (LOTD) is a terrible follow-up Tolkein franchise.
During WWII the US deployed a Naval ship whose sole purpose was to make, store, and provide ice cream to troops actively deployed to heavy combat areas. Now you can't even have 9 ball

Damn near 30 years at this and it's still a huge PITA to pull data from a PDF into Excel. Even Copilot balked at it. Thank goodness for good ol' trusty Notepad, savior of tabs & line-breaks.

Hey Siri, how do you create a slave workforce?
But just to make sure enough people are unemployed,
before the crashing stock market leads to corporate layoffs,

Every time I drag a .ics file onto my Outlook calendar and it actually imports I say, in genuine surprise, "hey it worked!" I think MS might be raising their batting average with this feature.

Travel safely and protect yourself. I would still LOVE mobile OS's to add an option that unlocks your phone to a minimum set of apps & data by providing an alternate fingerprint, or a "Windows 365" type app where my core apps could run in a remote virtual phone.
