If the definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing all over again while expecting different results, is US policy total insanity? Or just simple incompetence? Or insane incompetence? Incompetent insanity?
New: I can confirm hasty US-Russia proposal being pushed to Ukrainians via Dmitriev-Witkoff to Umerov. It would amount to Ukraine’s capitulation, with people familiar saying it’s Kremlin’s maximalist demands.
-Ukraine army cut 1/2
-Give up certain weapons
-Give up Donbas
-Zelensky displeased

Turkey already demonstrated the most effective response to Russian violations of NATO airspace 10 years ago: Warn them off, and if they ignore the warning, shoot them down.
Do nothing and Russia will keep coming. Hit back and they back down. The choice is ours. #Article4 #Estonia

As everyone in the Trump Administration knows, Russia always wins and cannot be defeated, and so Trump would be asking Ukraine to just withdraw from areas that Russia cannot capture. Makes sense.
Putin proposed freezing the front in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson in exchange for Ukraine giving up the whole of Donetsk, including the parts Russia hasn’t invaded, Axios reports.

This would be laughed out of Kyiv.

Those sectors include childcare, where incomes are set by the government, and social care, where…prices are largely set by the government.

There have, of course, been no announcements on increasing providers’ incomes. They have had their employers’ national insurance hiked, though.
“We do have to ask why some sectors of our economy seem addicted to cheap labour”, says Starmer, as he counters the economic argument that immigration boosts growth and improves living standards for all.

Lots of data to be analysed, but we know what yesterday means. Labour has fluffed its 1st year in govt: a promise of vague change followed up with no obvious change & the prospect of limited change between now & 2029. Reform is the party best exploiting the frustrations which follow from this.

I once found some microwave cookbooks in my grandmother's basement--people TRULY thought they would revolutionize cooking! And then they didn't and now we use them for a few easy tasks. Generative AI is going through the same. Higher ed shouldn't become a place that churns out microwave cookbooks.

Also, why would Ukraine need US, or anyone else for that matter, to surrender to Putin’s demands? Ukraine could have done it at any point if deemed inevitable.
Putin offers exactly nothing in exchange. “Dropping claims” is a joke. Russia didn’t need any formal claims to invade Ukraine twice.

I struggle to see any benefit whatsoever for Ukraine in this. No credible commitment from Russia, no security guarantees, no nothing
US 7-point “peace plan” presented in London:
1 Crimea is 🇷🇺
2 End hostilities at front line
3 🇺🇸 lifts all sanctions against 🇷🇺
4 Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant will be transferred to 🇺🇸. 🇺🇸 begins energy cooperation with 🇷🇺
5 No sec guarantees from 🇺🇸
6 🇺🇦 will not join NATO
