First book on Hillsborough and modern football shortlisted for Orwell prize, Gordon Burn prize and Football Book of the Year. Working on debut novel
If you're interested in Jack the Ripper, I can't recommend this book enough. By Bruce (Withnail & I) Robinson, it was a 15-year project. A fascinating, unflinching takedown of the police-confected 'mystery' that was staring them in the face all along

This Observer revelation about The Salt Path is interesting, not least for raising the question: to what extent do book publishers have an obligation to establish the authenticity of a memoir?
Penniless and homeless, Raynor and Moth Winn found fame with their story of their 630-mile walk to salvation. The Salt Path became a global bestseller and was adapted into a major film.

But we can reveal it wasn’t the whole truth.

Guardian & Observer journalists are on strike again today & tomorrow.

We believe we have a duty to tell readers the truth. Which is that this deal sucks. It’s bad for the Obs, bad for the Guardian. Bad for journalism.

Any support you can give us is hugely valued 🙏

Today is the Observer’s 233rd birthday. And the first of 4 strike days. I grew up in South Wales in the shadow of the miners’ strike. Extraordinary to be joining a picket line outside what I believed was my liberal progressive news org all these years later.

We’re so grateful for your support & ✊

From start to finish, FIFA's approach to human rights standards in the 2030 and 2034 bidding processes has been a sham.

And its callous disregard for workers in ignoring its own report on compensation is scandalous.
