#OTD in 1920 the Black and Tans infamously burned the north Co Dublin town of Balbriggan. It was retaliation for the shooting of two RIC officers there by the IRA but became emblematic of the British policies of reprisals in Ireland www.theirishstory.com/2020/10/14/t...

Exactly this…
Not just excess, it’s a system built to keep people hungry so the rich can keep feasting. But the masses are waking up.

Powerful video…

@newstalkfm.bsky.social you platformed Musks dad (when starting Doge) to make outrageous claims about his son. Now Elon has stepped down having quashed investigations into his own practices, awarded himself lucrative contracts & failed to deliver promised savings. Should you have his dad back now?

Qatar win the European Cup. An absurd sentence, but a farce of a match, that was an exhibition of superior power - in multiple senses

The record scoreline symbolised the scale of football's issues

This is a terrible reflection on where we are in western society and, in particular, the amoral mess that is the EPL. When a billionaire football club owner gets to decide who should be accredited as media, the plot has been well and truly lost.

What an excellent post. In particular, the torching of alliances and dismantling of diplomatic power are breathtaking to watch.
Pax Americana rested on three pillars: US military power & defensive alliances, US economic power & free trade, and US diplomatic clout and support for liberal democracy/the rule of law. All three have essentially evaporated in the space of 10 weeks. The American Century (1917-2025) is over.

FWIW, my take on the disgrace at the White House is that Trump planned on doing his avaricious minerals deal, and then selling Ukraine out to Putin. By insisting on simultaneous security guarantees, publicly, Zelensky was calling out the double cross. Hence the temper tantrum. USA’s reputation in 🚽.

This is the problem with the timidity and fake balance of BBC political coverage. A historic betrayal of Ukraine to Russia by Europe's former ally is boiled down to an utterly superficial row about a man's clothes www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Excellent performance by Stuart Atwell tonight. Didn’t award a clear pen, allowed Guimaraes to kick whoever he wanted, wherever he wanted, whenever he wanted, and disallowed a goal when the keeper was just late. The PGMOL trifecta.
