Get this: the standards weirdly insist that McCarthy should not be made fun of.

In teacher preparation courses, we ask beginning teachers to create lesson plans. Of course, this level of lesson planning depth is not done in the classroom, but it is to learn what makes a good lesson plan. So, I asked AI to do it and described two different contexts. The results were concerning.🧵

Honest question here: Why was the NYT coverage of Mamdani's education SOOOO different for high school and college?
Bowdoin is pilloried as a left-wing race-baiting school;
Bronx Science is described as fun and formative.
Seems weirder than usual...

Required reading for school people: This is literally the oldest failed story in the history of US public schools:
1.) new tech works great at school for rich kids;
2.) well-meaning but inexperienced philanthropists impose it on all kids;
3.) ....it crashes out hard.

Okay, say what you want about NYT, but "ripped the face off" is a pretty good way to describe this:

Just as with evolution and climate change science, schools might be the only place some students will hear the real facts about #NoKings.
Still not too late, much of the school year remaining. #NoKings can be more than protests, can be a series of lessons and experiences.
Blue states should make democracy the prevailing theme of the upcoming school year. Not just civics/social studies classes, but democracy-reinforcing lessons & experiences integrated throughout the curriculum.
Boldly educate through the crisis, don't leave children in despair, teach a better way.

It is a attempt to crush the independent power of research universities. It would kill them and leave us all worse off.
