As an avid horror fiction enjoyer, I love being deeply unsettled by all those heavily photoshopped character portraits, and very much looking forward to be weirded out by Netflix selling us the mid-twen, approaching-30 main cast as high schoolers or something

Many new writers come to the world of writing FROM the world of visual images. Be wary. These are vastly different mediums and the rules of engagement are different. What a film uses to seduce you isn't what a book uses to seduce you. Character is key.

In a good novel, the writer writes ongoing 'hooks'. They don't rely on the first hook thinking it will have sufficient hook energy to power the whole novel. Instead, as they develop character, they litter the novel with life problems. Your character evolves.
