Been thinking on the use of GenAi for mood boards. Ethics and legal risks aside, I truly believe using GenAi as references deprives one of many pivotal things.

Here’s a blurb on what I mean:
Some thoughts: When using GenAi as a mood board you don't get sources. This means you deprive yourself from knowledge. You generated a location? You deprived yourself of knowing more about the interesting parts of the world and why things came to be. Generate an armor or costume? You deprived yourself on real world techniques, function, form and history. You generated art inspirations? You deprive yourself of learning about artists from history or lock out living ones from potentially being hired. Ethical issues of using GenAi models aside, one ends up making visuals mood boards devoid of reality and history. With it one deprives themselves from learning about our world and who is living in it, inadvertently making your work weaker, because of how detached it is from our shared human reality and history.

Ribbon Finance suffers $2.7 million exploit, plans to use "dormant" users' funds to repay active users Ribbon Finance, which has partially rebranded to Aevo, has lost $2.7 million after attackers exploited a vulnerability in the smart contract for legacy Ribbon vaults that enabled them to manipulate oracle prices and withdraw a large amount of ETH and USDC. Ribbon has announced it will cover $400,000 of the lost funds with its own assets. However, Ribbon is also offering users a lower-than-expected haircut on their assets by assuming that some of the largest affected accounts will not withdraw their assets, having been dormant for several years. While this plan may benefit active users, it seems like it could get very messy if those dormant users do wish to withdraw their assets and discover they've been used to pay others.

Companies like America Online Inc. and Amazon.com Inc. have little in the way of traditional capital spending, which can be depreciated over several years. Instead, their capital-intensive outlays consist of upfront marketing costs to acquire customers, says Adrian Slywotzky, vice president of Mercer Management Consulting Inc. These costs, he says, often amount to $20 to $100 or more per customer, and immediately hit the profit-and loss statements as expenses, reducing profit.

This is a good take. FWIW, hiring managers will look at your resume/CV, and if you make it to the interview they'll ask questions about what you did at each job. If they're serious about hiring you they'll do a background check and contact one or more previous employers to verify.

My controversial take is that if you didn't get credited on a game you have proof you've worked on, just list it on your CV.

I do with one. Never had any issues.

Not being credited still sucks but you don't need to be polite when they're not.
