Ham radio and such things. Late of x-twitter. Out of practice VE. QTH DM14sc

For some reason I'm curating 4 ham radio feeds these days & one for the Morongo Basin (Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree, 29 Palms, etc); please see https://bit.ly/4bDVT5G for details.
For some reason this photo makes me think about making s'mores. 🙂

(Full disclosure: I hate s'mores.)

Most likely I'd be down the hill with a heavy cooler full of groceries on the bike. Failing snagging a mercy truck ride, I'd probably try to snag a friend with a car. I'd have them take the cooler and the bike battery which would remove at least 25 pounds of the load.

Yeah I've got a cargo bike. Walk it home is the plan, if unsuccessful begging a friend with a pickup truck for a ride. I always take my phone.
I couldn't do that much uphill peddling on a normal bike.

Okay NOW 60 years later I get a bit on The Andy Griffith Show.
Barney's landlady confronts him in his rented room about his rule-breaking. She finds a light bulb in his lamp that is more than the allowed wattage and unscrews it. Barney yells "Bulb snatcher!" at her. Had to be a reference to this. 😃

Use "study mode" or "read questions" to be sure you see all the questions (not "practice test" which will only give you a subset)

I don't know about youtube courses, that's a good question. You might try hamstudy.org which is primarily designed as a flash-card type study, but for each question you can "click the corner" and get at least some explanation for the theory behind it.

Oh now it's making sense.

FYI there are several ham radio feeds on bluesky. Search feeds for "amateur radio".

That's a lot! I've had 4 since June.

My qrz posted email is a disposable forwarding address. So I'll probably deactivate that one and put up a fresh one, see how long that lasts. Should be good for a while, depending how often they scrape qrz for emails.

Don't knock it 'till you've tried it.

Back around the late '90s, I believe it was, the FCC announced that they were finally turning up some degree of electronic access (to what functions exactly, I have forgotten)... via dial-up modem. I shit you not. I was like; wut?

This would let me eliminate dupe posts coming from sources like ap.brid.gy that typically mirror posts already showing up in the feed from bluesky native accounts.
Thank you!
