Lecturers at RGU are on strike today to protect jobs, stand up for quality education and oppose compulsory redundancies.

Our members have been left with no other option but to take strike action to fight back against the University's cost cutting measures.

I was scheduled to give a talk on Palestine at a student conference at @notredame.bsky.social. The University rescinded my talk a week in advance citing an extremely flimsy excuse. It is truly disgusting. Attached is the letter I received and my reply, link below...

The latest atrocities are the grim reality of the Israeli government’s ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza.

States like the UK that continue to transfer arms to Israel are brazenly violating their obligation to prevent genocide & are deepening their complicity in this genocide.

Teachers are on their knees as the result of crippling workload pressures, that see them work on average 11 hours a week extra, unpaid. They need tangible progress now on tackling what are unfair, unhealthy and unsustainable levels of workload.

This week I saw…

A student give up.

A student try again.

A student find success.

I was there to witness, encourage, & occasionally inspire.

Some heard & some did not.

And next week I’ll do it again.

This is the job. This is teaching.
