The interesting thing about this bit is it seems like a random aside at first, until the end when the mom who is pathologically obsessed with security for her son is the CEO of a security/surveillance company. In that context, its contemporary political salience comes to light.

I watched SOME OF MY BEST FRIENDS ARE (1971) last December for my 'unusual Christmas movies' marathon. I really loved seeing this little sentimental slice of near-forgotten culture on a Christmas Eve at a gay bar in 1970.
One of my favorite photos of Candy Darling was this publicity shoot for SOME OF MY BEST FRIENDS ARE, which is screening rn on TCM.
