The insinuation that discussing healthcare for trans young people is ‘not appropriate’ - as if it is distasteful or unseemly - is vile

I’ve enjoyed the historical photos you’ve posted today. It’s so heartening to see images of queer folk through history standing up, fighting back - it inspires hope in a time of hopelessness that we have been here before, we have a blueprint for what to do, that we are not alone.

I think it’s the first anti-LGBTQ+ piece of UK legislation since Section 28? What a legacy.

So half a percent of the population is insignificant and not representative in Episcopalian faith terms, but a huge and menacing threat in trans terms?

The casual racism of describing bureaucracy ‘like Japanese knotweed’ vs Britain thriving. ‘Knotweed’ is a generic term for several species of weeds - many native to UK - which plague gardeners. Japanese knotweed, however, is considered an invasive foreign species. The word choice is intentional.

As a Brit, this bit gave me chills: “And the rest of us, we have to eat food and drink milk and wonder if we're contracting some sort of a disease or suddenly participating in the brand new pandemic, which we won't even know is happening outside of maybe hearing about it on the BBC or Al Jazeera.”

Fairly windy road, you say? I was raised in evangelical church & church school (also during Section 28). Domestic violence. Having trans kids made me realise I had to deconstruct, leave church (and I finally realised my identity!) Now in a queer & progressive leftie home (with a wild family tree!)

The same Hadley Freeman, lest we forget, who had a completely normal and rational one when interviewing Margaret Atwood 3 years ago (as summarised in this Reddit post)

What about people who claim to be Christian but use it as a cover to enact abuse, of women and children for example, without even trying to claim it as God’s will? My religious father always claimed he would be forgiven for this and go straight to heaven - while playing the public holy man at church

I've heard of edging, but it's been 2,000 years and Jesus hasn't been able to come again.
