I urge you to defend Congress' constitutional authority over federal spending and push back against any attempts by the executive branch to usurp the power of the purse. The decision to withhold Congressionally-approved aid undermines the system of checks and balances and sets a dangerous precedent of executive overreach. As a co-equal branch of government, it is critical that Congress asserts its rightful role in allocating funds and oversees how taxpayer dollars are disbursed. Abdicating this core responsibility would weaken our democratic institutions. I call on you to take decisive action to rein in any unilateral freezes on Congressionally-mandated expenditures and reassert Congress' fiscal powers.
