@steveklabnik.com do you know of any kind of #jj-vcs community templates space? I once saw (and sadly forgot to bookmark) a blog entry where someone shared their lovely log & oplog templates, and now have been cursed to never find such a resource again in all my searches

Shabbat Shalom to everyone who recognizes that the safety, freedom & thriving of Jews and Muslims are bound up together — in Israel & Palestine, across the five boroughs, and in many other beloved places.
Lander: "It's just gross, racist bigotry. Meanwhile he's running an optimistic, upbeat campaign for a NY where everybody belongs, and I feel proud as the highest-ranking Jewish elected official in NYC to be supporting somebody who would be the first Muslim mayor—what could be more NYC than that?"

“In mainstream discourse, it's become standard to blame the excesses of the right [the left]. It's a way that the right is granted masculine prerogatives and the left feminine responsibilities for the right's behavior.” @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social

In 1849, after William Thompson (the original "Confidence Man") was arrested, the New York Daily Herald had a whole column that was basically "poor guy. he should have worked on Wall Street--then the nation would have loved him instead."
I don't know if there's ever been a culture more in love with charlatans than ours. "Success" defined entirely by how good you are at tricking people into giving you money. An entire country of aspiring slop merchants

Amid all the other news, it's easy to become inured to the basic facts here. Öztürk:

-Is not accused of committing any crime

-Is nonviolent

-Was in this country legally

-Merely engaged in speech that the administration objects to

-Has been locked up for six weeks
Now from Öztürk’s ACLU lawyer Esha Bhandari:

“Rümeysa Öztürk’s case is unprecedented and shocking. She has been held behind bars for six weeks while her health deteriorates for writing an op-ed.”

NEW: A federal judge raised alarm Friday that the Trump administration appeared to have deported a 2-year-old U.S. citizen to Honduras with "no meaningful process" — even as her father was fighting to keep her in the country.

I’m sorry, no. You mistake disappointment with hate. You can love something and be disappointed by it. In fact, it may only be love that could make you care and attend enough to see it become better.
The problem I'm seeing with leftists is they want others to hate America as much as they do but I'm sorry that's not going to happen and also that's no way to improve politics. We need people to love this country and want to make it better. This era has actually made me more patriotic.

Unidentified men grabbing someone off the street and putting her in a car because she wrote an op-Ed. This as flatly authoritarian as anything we’ve seen in this country in a very long time.
Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.

They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.

But our president believes that "the state" is inseparable from his person. So none of that counted. Trump demands gratitude *personally*, to *him*.

And any gratitude expressed to America when Trump was not its supreme leader isn't just worthless—he sees it as a betrayal.

I'm reading Virginia Woolf's "Between the Acts" again and... it's a bit eery how similar that book and its backdrop are to the current moment? 💙📚

There's this question in the book not only of "can we survive another war?" but "what is survival if we've lost a common ground for shared meaning?"

I get the fascination in poring over this guy’s socials, but ultimately this is a story of two violences: one, a murder; the other, 30k+ claims rejected for profit by UHC that caused pain and often death. This guy’s wonky goodreads reviews may shift one story, but they don’t make a dent in the other
