Join us in calling your city council member to demand 0.5% of the budget go to our libraries.

Use this script and then tell us how it went with our survey!

For decades, the Amistad Research Center in NOLA has served as 1 of America’s largest repositories of artifacts on Black history, featuring a collection of 15 million rare documents dating back to the 1780s, as well as a fine art collection. Its future is uncertain. www.spokesman.com/stories/2025...

I have been pleading for folks to run for their local public library boards, because LIBRARIANS NEED THE SUPPORT OF THEIR BOARDS to stand up to censorship and defunding and “parental rights” fascism. Good on you!! 📚
Dogs, bikes, and community involvement. I'll be running for a library board position, in addition to already being a town meeting member. Even though I have little control over what will happen federally, it will feel empowering to at least have a voice in how my town is run. Plus, libraries rock!
If you’re in the US, what’s your plan for maintaining your sanity through the incoming administration?

My favorite ideas so far: novels and poetry instead of doomscrolling, daily exercise (even 15 minutes is better than nothing), and maybe we don’t need to check the news more than 1x/day

South Asians for Black Lives (on IG: southasians4blacklives) and BlindianProject are jointly conducting a survey on anti-Blackness in South Asian communities. The survey is one page and should take approximately 5 minutes to complete. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F... #racism #solidarity #BlackLives

Altadena is one of the oldest Black communities in Southern California. It’s where, during the Great Migration, Black families found footholds in the American Dream. It’s where homes became anchors of generational wealth & physical proof of what our parents & grandparents built, against the odds! 🧵
I talked to the Black residents of Altadena who say they’ve lost everything but hope.

“When you escape tragedy, you say, ‘it could have got me.’ It didn’t. So I’m going to keep on going,” said 83-year-old Walt Butler.

Criminalizing people for a lack of housing when the actual crime is vulture capitalism, property speculation, greedy developers in bed with city hall and numerous ailments so far from anyone in a tent. But yet again, every opportunity is taken to maximize humiliating the poor.

there's a point in the writing process where you've read the thing one too many times and now you are literally disgusted by every word you wrote.

I'm there.

After 50 successful years, Feminist Studies faculty vote to disestablish the formal department, making way for more wide-ranging feminist scholarship across campus
