The improv duo of Bill Orcutt (guitar) and Chris Corsano (drums) opened for Tortoise last night and they were freakishly telepathic, jaw-droppingly intense and utterly joyous. The crowd was blown away. Wow, am I glad I got there early.

I hope the centrists learned a hard lesson last night. No more reaching across the aisle to people who have been spitting in our faces for decades. Run young people, run socialists, run on actionable ideas that seek to make our lives better.

This is driving me crazy. The New York Times calling this madness an “anti-drug operation” is one of the worst forms of propaganda: accepting stated motivations of powerful people as the truth.

NEW: The government does not track how often immigration agents grab citizens. So ProPublica did.

We found more than 170 such incidents since the start of the second Trump administration. Our tally — almost certainly incomplete — includes nearly 20 children, two of whom have cancer.

Not only does this story get a number of basic facts wrong, it doesn’t take time to actually explore why Portlanders elected these folks. Coming in with a pre-baked PDX story to fit a NYT narrative about NYC is harmful, especially at this moment.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

I got permission to share this, and I'm extremely grateful for that.

The Onion got this letter from one of our subscribers in Alaska. She works with dementia patients and decided to leave a copy in the car for each one.

This email made my year. Read it and you'll see what I mean. People are good.

Brian Wilson story:

In 2006 I was with Sonic Youth in Australia for the Splendour in the Grass festival. Brian Wilson was also there, performing Smile (I think).

The festival put us up at a sort of eco-resort with pathways through the dunes down to the beach.

Grateful to Smithsonian Folkways for inviting me to write a tribute to my friend, penpal & an all-time favorite artist Michael Hurley, who put his 1st album out on Folkways in 1964 and from there forged a path outside the constraints of the corporate music industry folkways.si.edu/news-and-pre...

Alright I've got a Michael Hurley story for you guys.

The first time I met Michael would have been sometime in 1999. I was working doing sound at Tonic on the Lower East Side. I was a bit intimidated but as with any artist I introduced myself as he arrived.

Sesame Street really tells the story of America:

- Created for PBS to educate young (especially Black!) children
- Becomes a beloved institution cherished by the entire country
- Gets privatized and kicked to premium cable due to budget cuts
- Unionization leads to mass layoffs

What a country!
