the corollary to "if you're not disabled, you're just not disabled *yet*" is that if you already are disabled boy howdy it can always get worse lol

Interesting fact about Grind Culture is that the term comes from drug dealers who have to work until they earn back their money or else they starve and/or get murdered

The richest country in the world could easily house, feed, & care for everyone who needs it

There’s no reason for an epidemic of homelessness

There’s no reason people should be going without food or healthcare

50% of Americans can’t afford a basic standard of living

Poverty is a political choice

How about we worry less, as a society, about whether individuals might be cheating to get a disability accommodation or some help buying food, and more about whether extremely wealthy people and corporations are paying their fair share of taxes?

Our city is beautiful, and big hearted, and boisterous. Our city is only truly dangerous these days in those places and times that ICE brown shirts choose to flagrantly violate law and all human decency. Our city also has a long memory, and will see justice done for its beloved immigrant families.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

Burn all of these detention centers to the fucking ground.
This thread is horrific
A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.

A lot of people are sharing articles about how to stretch your food budget or cook like our grandparents did to survive.

Our grandparents lived through the Great Depression.

If we’re having to resort to what they did… things are much worse than folks are willing to admit.

Americans should absolutely be concerned that 1 in 8 people rely on SNAP

It’s not a matter of pulling themselves up by their bootstraps

It’s corporate greed. It’s companies refusing to pay a living wage. It’s a high cost of living in a stagnant economy

stop blaming poor people

SNAP is not the reason your taxes are high.

SNAP recipients don’t need to “just go get a job”.

Most of them work. The rest are disabled, elderly, children or caregivers.

People need & deserve assistance

Your taxes fund wars and tax cuts for the ultra rich

Be mad about that

AI is not sentient. It doesn't have a survival instinct. What's happened is that corporations have decided that we'll all obey capital if it can pretend to talk.

The latest reason to stop watching pro football - college too, I assume - is the incessant running of ICE indoctrination and recruitment propaganda. The NFLs whole empire is built on its massive TV numbers. If those can be sustainably dented, the cartel that runs the sport will have to listen.

After weeks of saber rattling, last night this federal government committed to war in Chicago, deploying military helicopters to smatch Black and brown children from their beds in the South Shore community. Chicago will fight back.

I heard Ozzy first on the radio on a Twofer Tuesday: "See You on the Other Side" then "Mama I'm Coming Home". I got into his earlier solo stuff and then of course Sabbath in short order, but I've always felt he was an underrated balladist. He's been teaching us to say goodbye to him for a long time.

Stop falling for the trap of latching on to the price of an item (eggs, beef…) as the message. The issue is affordability. From 2001-2023 wages failed to keep up with rising costs. Medical premiums rose 301% Travel expenses were up 170%. Rent grew by 131%. The cost of raising children grew by 107%.
