Programming note: I'll be on The Current with Matt Galloway tomorrow at 9am, talking about my trip.

If you've missed out so far, this is the last sort of talk before the book next year.

is there a question in the interview where Matt has to be like "please explain your whole deal", who can say

They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.

Fantastic news for local government geeks: @BCHeadlines has moved over to BlueSky!

They produce a daily feed of all civic politics stories across the province.

Happy they are here, and no longer providing free labour to a person who says that Canada is not a real country.

I've heard back from the City of Vancouver.

They confirmed that they have approximately 265 staff "currently in the field" working the byelection.

That's a 79% dropoff from the 2017 byelection.

Odd they didn't mention that in their original explanation to media as to why lines were so long.
I've cracked the code of why byelection lineups are so long in Vancouver today.

It's not just a turnout question.

Compared to the 2017 byelection, the city decreased the number of election workers by EIGHTY PERCENT.

From 1,250 in 2017 to 250 this time around.

This was a staff recommendation.

Was lucky enough to watch a pre-screening of Tea Creek - It’s an inspiring, informative and deeply touching documentary that everyone should watch once it’s available. In the meantime, check out Jacob’s YouTube channel! :D

I wish so often that I could say what I mean in half as many words. Being able to be concise and confident is like a superpower from where I’m standing haha

Yet another reminder - alas - of the disastrous unintended (but entirely predictable) consequences of Bill C-18. [How do I know they were predictable? Because I predicted them!]

“But you don’t look sick!”

We know. That’s because we’re trying really friggin hard not to. We’re hiding how awful we feel. We’re playing through the pain because that’s what’s expected of us.

Many disabilities are invisible. If we don’t choose to disclose, you won’t know we have them:
Why Are Chronically Ill People Forced to Hide Their Pain?
And what would happen if we stopped hiding and showed the world the depths of our suffering?

Also, a woman was handcuffed at a subway station in NYC (Franklin Ave) when she intervened asking why a delivery man was asked to show work permit by undercover agents. There is a video of that.

cutting us off from the world economy, crashing the market, induced unemployment, all chasing the dream of "recreating the 1950s" isn't actually going to solve these problems. it's going to drive up the price of consumer goods without doing a damn thing about the housing crisis. womp womp

When you’re chronically ill, your baseline is everything.

The non disabled can’t possibly fathom the amount of time & energy that goes into maintaining what’s left of our health.

It takes ages to make the tiniest gains, and only split seconds to lose them.

Be kind. Respect our boundaries.

The National Post is owned by an American firm. Looks like they don't want Carney to win.

This is foreign interference by our enemy. Canada needs to ban foreign ownership of our media. We need to do it now.
No fewer than four anti-Carney articles at the top of the NP’s website today. Looks like there was a directive to drop anything else.

I will never resent people for being free unless they pull up the ladder behind them or their freedom is predicated on someone else’s oppression, in which case that’s not real freedom.

I will ask, as Toni Morrison encouraged us to, how they are using their freedom to free others
