That Feb. 24, 2022, I hosted virtually a guest speaker, who was working for the UN in Lebanon. She was late because of a meeting due to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. I will never forget that guest lecture. And here we are, almost 4 years after, and the war on Ukraine continues to rage.

I heard today from a @umassamherst.bsky.social alumna, who graduated in 2022, who wrote that she wishes she was back in my Humanitarian Logistics & Healthcare class @isenbergumass.bsky.social.
On a day with so much awfulness just taking a moment to note with admiration a dignified leader
🇲🇩🇺🇦 Moldovan President Sandu said that she is against her nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, because there are more worthy candidates - Ukrainian prisoners of war.

Sandu emphasized that it is Ukrainians who are truly sacrificing themselves for the sake of peace and security in Ukraine and the EU.

This seems like ancient history, doesn't it. www.gov.uk/government/p...

Fresh snow overnight.

Good luck to all the athletes competing at the 2026 Winter Olympics with a special shoutout to the 46 from Ukraine. Thanks to @nytimes.com for the photo. We plan on watching tonight.

Some scenes of chocolate for Valentine's Day at Richardson's Candy Store in Deerfield. We purchased some for our consumption and will also be mailing some out tomorrow. Their handmade chocolates are delicious.

The crowd roared to welcome Team Ukraine to the Olympics.

Luckily the crowd also roared to welcome Team USA and then booed Vance when they showed him on screen, this is the way.

Thank you Italy.

It's a very exciting time, sports-wise, with the start of the 2026 Winter Olympics (and I heard back from a journal editor in Milan, who is super pumped) and, of course, the Super Bowl on Sunday, with @umassamherst.bsky.social hosting an on campus viewing party www.wwlp.com/sports/the-b...

My solidarity with journalists. Our experience of blackouts due to Russian attacks teaches us that, even in complete darkness around us, you can become a light for someone.

It felt SO good to receive many "Thank Yous" after my Humanitarian Logistics & Healthcare class this morning @isenbergumass.bsky.social. Faculty put out to make their lectures interesting & informative and to deliver them engagingly & dynamically. Nice to be appreciated. I have wonderful students.

And look at the deer crossing our backyard as we are eating dinner.

It was so beautiful!

After meetings today I needed some fresh air. It is still very cold in @townofamherst.bsky.social but seeing the beauty of the frozen waterfall at Puffer's Pond after a hike was magical. I love nature.

I am a Ukrainian Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. I have a question.

Why has Trump's year of negotiations been the deadliest for civilians in Ukraine since the full-scale invasion? The number of deaths and injuries has increased by 31 percent compared to the previous year.

It was a very busy but enjoyable teaching day for me today @isenbergumass.bsky.social. Not only was the first student to arrive to my morning class from Boston (and he drove 2 hours) but in my afternoon seminar on game theory & networks another student (a PhD one) also drove in from Boston.

Better to have a temperature of 7 degrees above zero than 7 degrees below. Heading out for a hike before meetings and research.

Beautiful sky at sunset.

Maravilloso

It is above 0 in @townofamherst.bsky.social but only by 1 degree. Waiting for the temperature to rise about 32F so that all the snow can start to melt.

It's the first day of February. It's a short month so spring will arrive "soon."
