@alexhinton.bsky.social answers a question we are all bewildered by: 'Why do MAGA faithful support Trump if his ‘big beautiful bill’ will likely hurt many of them?' They see him as a divine savior 'who can help ward off the threat of radical left socialism'. #USA theconversation.com/why-do-maga-...

Columbia’s $200M deal with the Trump administration isn’t just about antisemitism — it expands federal oversight into admissions, hiring and more.

We unpack the agreement in a Q&A with a #highered scholar:

Columbia’s $200M deal with Trump administration sets a precedent for other universities to bend to the government’s will
While Columbia University can afford to pay the government $200 million in order to unfreeze federal grants and contracts it was awarded, many other universities and colleges could not.

Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” slashes Medicaid and boosts tax breaks for the wealthy, yet many of his supporters back it anyway.

Why? Loyalty, identity and a deep belief that Trump alone can fix America. theconversation.com/why-do-maga-... By @alexhinton.bsky.social @rutgersupress.bsky.social

**NewPub** -- Why do the #MAGA faithful support #Trump when his policies – like cuts to #Medicaid -- hurt them? #CognitiveDissonance – many think he’s “Crushing It” and counterarguments are dismissed as #fakenews. Bottom line: MAGA sinks or swims with Trump. @theconversation.com

I gotta say I find a lot of AI discourse around higher ed very confusing. "if ChatGPT can write your essays is college even worth it?" did people think math teachers were assigning problem sets because *they* couldn't figure out the answers?

Violent extremists like the Minnesota shooter are not lone wolves
The lone wolf metaphor used to describe mass shooters misinforms views of extremists – and hampers law enforcement efforts to deter the violence.
