postscript to that thread: even if you're already fully in support of HSR, traveling internationally and using HSR for the first time is a radicalizing experience. you will always, ALWAYS, wonder after why we are not good enough (yet) to have that for ourselves

LA-SF is only 70 miles more than Tokyo-Osaka, a HSR line that has 1/4-mile long trains, every 4 mins at peak hours, all day every day, with over 90:10 majority share over flights
