Always speaking for me.
My morning walk was exactly what I needed to process a stuck point on this race-gender wealth gap project. Something about moving helps me think.

Listened to an episode of Code Switch today that reminded me of the obsession with “objectivity” in mainstream journalism. Like with research, it’s time to embrace that nothing is objective. All reporting requires choices that mean making a subjective decision. 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

With tenure behind me, it finally feels like there’s time to learn new skills…I’m finally taking steps towards learning R!! First of which is requesting funds for a workshop to get me started.

#Stata user here looking for some help. I’m working on a decomposition analysis where I’d prefer to compare median values, but I’m stuck. oaxaca_rif doesn’t provide results by variable or group of variable and oaxaca won’t calculate for medians. Any ideas of what to do without dropping observations?

I’ve been thinking a lot about writing, so wrote a bit about the process side of things: practicalphd.net/2025/12/02/i...
Irregular and Iterative Writing Processes
Writing is never a straightforward process, and particularly so for academic writing.  While we read articles from introduction through to conclusion (the first page to the last page), this is…

Finally feeling back to myself. The grief rollercoaster is a thing. Have been letting myself adjust to where I am on the ride day by day because that’s giving myself grace. My world won’t be the same, but life goes on.

Finally got back to pulling out revision suggestions for my book into a comprehensive list. I have a lot to think about and new ideas are percolating! Truly appreciate the brilliant minds who took time to read my work and think through what will make it stronger! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

The more I read applications of Bourdieu’s cultural theory, the more I see Du Bois being way more useful for understanding culture for all people. Developing theory from a subaltern perspective accounts for dominant AND nondominant cultural factors. Only focusing on the dominant doesn’t. 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

After overcommitting myself to too many research projects for too long, I’m trying to wrap my head around what balance looks like. Any suggestions? How many projects are you working on at the same time? What stages are they in? How do you decide it’s time to add something new? Ya girl has ?s!

Done! All of it! Phew!
On 9/26, I wrote down 12 deadlines I had between 10/1 and 10/17. I have eliminated 1 of those and completed 6. Still 5 more to go before I will feel like I can breathe, but I’m getting closer.

These findings are really interesting! Can’t wait to share.
For those of you who don’t know me, I do quant work, but I am a long shot from a statistician. So very proud to report that I now understand both endowments AND coefficients (not just endowments) in decomposition analyses after a grueling time in a rabbit hole today!

Sigh…MaxQDA stopped accepting my perpetual license number yesterday…😭😭😭 I really did want to get some coding done yesterday and this happens??? The universe is trying to mess up my book writing schedule! Boo!!!
