Just to be super clear, if you’re phoning in your peer review to ai you should quit your job so someone else who actually likes science can have it.

When you see a headline that makes a claim that sounds absolutely bananas & cites some “study”, don’t just believe it because the headline used one science word. Look at the source. Was it even peer reviewed? Where? What are experts in the field saying about it? If it sounds ridiculous it might be.

Now seems like an appropriate time to say that the Jane Goodall talk I went to three years ago was hands down the best concert I’ve ever been to. What an absolute icon

I did a project on these little guys in grade 6 and have been obsessed with them ever since! So glad that conservation efforts are going well!
In case you hadn’t heard: Conservation works! 📣
Meet the ‘takhi’ (Przewalksi’s horse), the last truly wild horses. The last individuals in the wild were seen in the Gobi desert in 1969. Only a coordinated captive breeding programme (from just 12 indivs) saved them from extinction.

Your interesting #ornithology read for today: Acoustic monitoring in Malaysia is showing how bird communities can be a useful indicator of healthy mangrove forests.
How to tell if mangrove restoration is working? Listen to the birds
The soundscape in mangrove forests can be wonderfully complex. If you prime your ears, you might chance to hear mudskippers sloshing their bellies across silky mud, or fiddler crabs pattering between…

In recent Zoey lore, I’ve decided that 22 is the PERFECT age to learn to play hockey. Highly recommend starting a new sport and being absolutely abysmal at it. Most fun I’ve had in months!
