My take on AI is straightforward: the machine learning plagiarism industrial complex is not sentient. But the fish who have lived on earth continuously in one form or another for half a billion years & who are threatened by AI’s water consumption & climate change impacts are. I choose the fish. 🐟

You can imagine how kindly rich white boomers with a victim complex respond to even the gentlest of questions about their politics 😱

Anyhoo, a local journo should dig into why this group is going after public infrastructure spending & not, say, local government spending on consultants and lawyers.
This could be verbatim from the local ‘Tax Alliance’ & their attack on parks, transit, protecting wetlands, libraries, protecting pedestrians and cyclists, and joy.

(Their founder lives in a 3.6 million house).

neoliberalism is a heckuva drug.

And please also, AGAIN, never forget that they are inherently unethical to use because no one gave permission for their research or writing to be used in it. It is all stolen, and if you're using the plagiarism machine, please keep that in mind.
My friends, I say this with all the love in my heart: Right now might not be the moment for “But we should be TOLERANT and NUANCED about the plagiarism machines!”

Your tolerance and “nuance” will be weaponised by the grifters and their apologists. Please respect yourselves more.

The through line with white people extractively claiming to be Indigenous for gain in 🇨🇦 is celebrity distorts+overrides our wave-based collective onto-sovereignties. This is why I refuse to reify concept of ‘the one’ speaking ‘for’ a collective. Pretendians and celebrity are two sides of same coin.

The buffalo in the room with the Federal Government's 'braiding, bridging, weaving' mandate for Indigenous science is that the public service itself still operates on a 'self-id' basis for Indigenous verification. That is not a safe space for us to bring our Indigenous ontologies forward.

It's powerful to see Odanak push back against efforts by white settlers to distort+possess Abenaki heritage for white possessive (Moreton-Robinson 2015) enrichment+control.

US and Canadian academe sure loves colonial mirror world white possessive 'indigeneity'.

After the Thomas King revelations, I was also reminded of the situation at Carleton and the impact it has had on Indigenous people there. It still bothers me this prof claimed a "Muskrat" heritage. A lot happened in the region since the early 18th century.
What is the most toxic university for Indigenous students, staff, faculty in Canada? Carleton University is pretty high up there but manages to squeak out of accountability every time it’s scrutinized. Media should analyze faculty turnover, student complaints.
