NDP Member of Parliament for Courtenay-Alberni
Friday I introduced legislation to end the discriminatory “Gold Digger” clause that denies survivor benefits to spouses who marry after 60. Veterans and families deserve dignity and fairness. It’s time to fix this injustice. #cdnpoli #veterans #FairnessForFamilies

he College is calling for real solutions: more family doctors, team-based care, streamlined credentials, and less paperwork. This matches our NDP work on Doctors for Everyone — because family medicine is the backbone of our system. #cdnpoli #bcpoli #HealthCare #DoctorsForEveryone #GordJohnsMP

I don’t weigh in on Alberta politics — every province charts its own course. But the message from #ForeverCanadian resonates: we’re stronger together. Here in Courtenay–Alberni, our work in ship-recycling, local food, and climate-resilient forestry depends on a united Canada. Forever Canadian.

Every year before I head home for Remembrance Day, I visit the National Military Cemetery. A quiet moment to honour those who never returned, and the families and communities forever changed by their sacrifice. We recommit ourselves to peace. Lest we forget.

Last week I met with Harold Davis and Mike McGlennon from Persian Gulf Veterans of Canada. They’ve spent 35 years fighting for proper recognition — “battle honours” — the Liberals promised. I asked in the House: why isn’t the funding in the budget? We must honour our veterans.

Honouring my friend and colleague Matt Jeneroux as he steps down from Parliament. We worked side-by-side on men’s mental health, including Fathers Day on the Hill. His “Hi Dad” work has opened space for connection and healing, . I’ll miss him in the House. Wishing him and his family the very best.

Honoured to attend Honouring Women Veterans on Parliament Hill last night. Every Veteran I spoke with echoed the same message: it’s time for action on the ACVA report. Their service deserves more than words — it deserves results. #VeteransWeek # Honoured WomenVeterans

Thank you @gordjohns.bsky.social for raising the issue of UK Frozen Pensions in such a succinct and effective way. I do taxes for dozens of impacted seniors - causes immense hardship and Canadian tax payers have to pick up the tab! www.facebook.com/share/v/1EmF...

In the House today, I called out runaway corporate greed. While RBC made $16B, Loblaws $2B & Rogers $1.7B, families are being bled dry at the pump, the till & by rising bills. We need an excess-profits tax to fund housing, pharmacare, mental health & good jobs. #cdnpoli #FairShare

Tomorrow’s budget is a chance to deliver for Canadians: a biomass tax credit to create clean-energy jobs; a national aerial wildfire fleet to protect communities; Indigenous-led ship repair/recycling in Port Alberni; my bill to simplify disability benefits; and real housing & cost-of-living relief.

The 400 richest Americans are now worth a record $6.6 trillion.

The entire bottom 50% of America is worth just $4.2 trillion.

Read that back.

When 400 people control more wealth than half a country’s population, we have a very serious problem.

Honoured to attend the national launch of the 2025 #PoppyCampaign in Ottawa. Sending greetings to all gathered at Legions throughout #CourtenayAlberni for local ceremonies. Wear your poppy with pride—support our Veterans & their families. #LestWeForget #PoppyCampaign

On Oct 21, I wrote to the Minister of Fisheries & Oceans urging the return of the Ghost Gear Fund—cut in Budget 2024 despite proven success cleaning marine debris & creating local jobs. Canadians deserve leadership on ocean protection. Our planet deserves no less. Sign petiton here: bit.ly/47yGXVo

Honoured to stand with Indigenous leadership at the opening of Ahousaht First Nation's 35 new affordable rental homes in Port Alberni. This is what nation-building looks like — locally-led, deeply rooted, built for community. More to come. #HousingForAll

I joined advocates outside the PMO to say this clearly: no cuts to foreign aid. Carney promised it—keep it. Protect and expand Canada’s support for the Global Fund to fight HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria. Canada must lead, not retreat. Lives are at stake.#cdnpoli @ResultsCda.bsky.social
Advocates call on Carney to keep his promise to not cut foreign aid in budget
With Mark Carney’s first ever federal budget just over a week away, international development advocates are calling on the prime minister to keep his pre-election pledge to uphold foreign aid funding.

Met with Minister Olszewski to push for a stronger federal wildfire response: a national fire & flood team, federal aerial firefighting capacity (incl. Coulson’s proposal), a Youth Climate Corps, & better coordination with provinces. Very positive discussion. #ClimateAction

Honoured to welcome the “Peace Trainers” back to Ottawa for the #PeaceTrain. Peace isn’t passive—it’s built daily through compassion, courage & education. Canada must be a stronger voice for peace & justice at home & abroad. #PeaceAndJustice #NDP

If it wasn’t one thing, it would’ve been something else. Trump’s suspension of trade talks isn’t about one ad—it’s about instability hurting Canadian workers, families & small businesses. We need leadership that defends jobs, fair trade & rural communities. #cdnpoli #FairTrade #SupportWorkers
