Reminder that juror fees have not been increased since 2004 (yes 21 years ago). The maximum payable is $127 for more than 3 hours and beyond 9 pm.

The usual daily rate is $62 for more than 3 hours but not beyond 6 pm.

Jury duty is obviously nowhere near as important as being on a board.
😡 #NZ Neoliberal RW Govt approves HUGE pay hikes for #CrownBoard, #authority members after fee framework changes, in many cases doubling the amount they receive, despite huge cuts in pay for teachers, nurses, carers & others #pay #inequality #AtlasNetwork #nzpol www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/...
'Absolutely huge': The pay hikes Crown bosses got after recent changes
The Government is defending it, but Labour's not impressed.

#nzpol is Bistromathics.
Stop comparing New Zealand politics and economy to a household.

It's more like going out to dinner is a restaurant that only does one bill per table, and nobody will cop to drinking all that really expensive wine or ordering the table full of untouched sides. #nzpol

Goddamnit. Two days of overcast night skies during massive CME event. Literally, old man shakes fist at cloud.
Tonight’s #Aurora is going gang busters in Alaska & Western Canada atm.

In NZ it won’t be as intense as last night, BUT should be visible across a wider NZ. Good luck to all those going out. I’m not racing out tonight.

Only 1/2hr after sunset, while taking a timelapse, this was happening in front of my camera (timelapse processing later).

This was about 1/4 of the #Aurora happening off the South Otago coast.

I was introduced to Gandalf a couple of years ago. He's a GC.
Hero. No doubt about it. Absolute hero.✊
We have a medical cannabis industry focused on profits and only open to those backed by corporate funding.
Paul "Gandalf" Smith is always focused on the welfare of the people he serves.
Total hero.🥰👍✌️

A bonfire of the climate policies. An emissions Guy Fawkes Day
The Govt quietly announced a loosening of climate rules at 8pm last night:
- Decoupling the ETS from Paris
- Shifting ETS resets to every 2 years
- Delaying the public sector target by 25 years
- Removing CCC advice from *before* emission reductions plans:

I fully support this, noting that the skeleton of the Social Security Act is still buried in the original 1930s meaning, and has significant catching up to do.
What if we did tho, what if we didn’t means test disabled people on the SLP and just paid it like we do for NZ Super? Not related to your partner’s income, not related to your income, and just, well, supported people?!

*golf clap* That's some Obama-grade rhetoric he's throwing.
Mamdani: "We can respond to oligarchy and authoritarianism with the strength it fears, not the appeasement it craves. After all, if anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him."

Flat meeting, everyone. We're a year away from the next election. Everyone hates Christopher Luxon, including his caucus. He was parachuted in too early by John Key's request, so that's on him as well.

Ok, here's the thing.

If Donald Trump runs a third time for president, the Democrats need to run Obama.
Obama: "The weird videos of a US president with a crown on his head flying a fighter jet & dumping poop on American citizens - that's not even worth booing about. Because all of that is a distraction from the fact that your situation, your life has not gotten better. They do it so you won't notice"

I was temporarily conflicted over this thing. I was born hearing impaired. Somewhere on the spectrum too. Mainstreaming gave me nothing, except speech therapy classes. I was offered Deaf School as a kid, but back then I was the Diet Coke of Deaf. NZSL was banned from 1880 til 1979.
This is so disappointing. When I started out teaching in the 90s people were still arguing for deaf students (FFS) to be taught in different classes.

Spanky Seymour is a disgrace to moden humanity
This is what I expected from the government, but it's incredibly disappointing that Autism New Zealand should go along with it. We need to make "regular" schools cater to neurodivergent students — which will benefit everyone! — not segregate difference.
