Tapping the sign that what you think is “GenZ slang” is actually AAVE and we have to have this discussion every single time. Young non-black folk have always ALWAYS gotten their slang from young black folk.
For those who don’t get why I’m mad:
If Blackfolk “crash out,” it’s read as criminal, dangerous, or diagnosable—rooted in psychiatric racism and hypercarceral logic.
For Whitefolk, crashing out doesn’t carry the same cultural weight of systemic pathologization.
This is the racism of appropriation.
