i mean you are just right but i am going to fall for the bait on purpose and say that having seen both i think gundam 0079 does have significant depth that transformers lacks. on the other hand
the zakrello from gundam, a weird yellow ball with evil mouth and claw arms and rocket boosters. it very clearly only exists to sell toys

complex shot of four assembled mecha model kits on a cutting mat- a rabbit-like woundwort in white and purple, a somewhat knightly r-jarja in bright red and yellow, a very soldier-like nemo in green and dark blue, and its spikier cousin the gm iii in white and teal. the woundwort is the center of the action- its legs kick wildly as it maneuvers, its red beam saber clashes with the yellow beam sword of the r-jarja, and its free hand dismissively brushes the nemo's gun away. as it does this its claw shield, attached by a wire, is flying off to lift the gm iii bodily and force its gun out of the way. while it's busy with that, the nemo's green beam saber slices through the wire connecting the claw shield.

a gundam woundwort model kit, assembled into its main component units but not fully put together- the head, torso/cockpit, arms, waist 'drum frame' core, thruster pod, legs, and weird spider-y gun thing are all indicated with captions on the pieces of paperboard they rest on. it looks kind of like it's been dissected
