Last year, I went to Cambodia to explore Nike's claim that it pays factory workers 1.9X the minimum wage on average. It wasn't true there.

My reporting partner, @matthewkish.bsky.social, went to Indonesia and asked ~100 workers whether they earn 1.9X. None did. Said one union official: "Bullshit."
Nike Says Its Factory Workers Make Nearly Double the Minimum Wage. In Indonesia, Workers Say, “It’s Not True.”
An average worker at the foreign factories that make Nike’s goods earns 1.9 times the local minimum wage, the company says. None of the workers The Oregonian/OregonLive spoke with in Nike’s second-lar...

"don't start with a compromise" is the very first thing you learn about negotiation. the fact that Democrats always do exactly this is how you know they are a controlled opposition and not a serious party with beliefs or goals
Republicans seem to inherently understand if you aim for Jupiter you can usually force your opponents to AT LEAST meet you on the moon.

Even if Schumer doesn't want to abolish ICE (which he should), aiming for that makes dramatic progress more likely.
Chuck Schumer's starting position should be as maximalist as possible -- complete abolition of ICE, resignations of Bovino, Homan, Noem and Miller, unmasking of all agents, and prosecution by state authorities of the murderers.

Don't start with what looks like a compromise half-measure.

We spent months and months figuring out how to connect generic drugs to the factories they were made in. A bunch of researchers asked us for our data, so we’re giving it away to everyone: www.propublica.org/article/rx-i...

I know resignation is a sign of protest, but it really just moves them closer to their goal of filling all these positions with MAGA lunatics.

More than 2 million oil and gas wells sit unplugged in the U.S., many leaking contaminants into waterways, farmland and neighborhoods.

Time and time again, oil companies have walked away — leaving taxpayers to pay for cleanup. Here’s how.

Oil executive Tom Ragsdale walked away from his old wells, making the pollution left behind the state of New Mexico’s problem. His tactics, however, are ubiquitous in the industry.

ICE then hid the memo from the public, passing it along by word of mouth and private conversation.
