Astonishing, really. Though I've noticed the same thing in my own intellectual backyard for some time.

*Country-level* multi lingualism? You have got to be kidding

Right wing? Jeez. After the last year of relentless attacks on the new Govt. Including continuing to refer to it as "Labour" as if it were still the opposition.

If the BBC licence fee could somehow be disconnected between news and non-news output, I suspect the number of people willing to pay to watch its news output would be tiny

This is what happened during Thatcher's attacks on the heavy industries. Ironic, as heavier jobs were abolished, more people became economically inactive.

Very good points in your post. "Custom & Practice" in the steelworks used to provide less arduous jobs for injured steelworkers. All abolished in the 1980s .

Lucky you. It is such a beautiful place

I hardly can bear the BBC news & current events programs any more.

In the years before smartphone music players, didn't some people play their radios out loud on public transport? Admittedly, not very often. I take loud music to be a form of attention seeking.

Very strikimg. Worse than I thought.
This looks rather meaningful.

As we seem to be experiencing the Plagues of Egypt plus several wars, the media are obsessed with .... the BBC

This is why some characteristics appear to be "genetic"

That looks like a Mosquito?

That's too bad. I took up strong coffee in my old age in order to hasten a heart attack.

Hope I don't do this. Many years ago, I was resentful of authors I knew had the tenure I longed for & never got. Now I get annoyed with the same mistakes arising over & over.

So anyone with only a state pension is in very deep poverty?

In my pre-arthritis walking days, this would have been gold mine.

I always found this confusing.

Not sure I umderstand. I dont want refugees or veterans to have to feel indebted to anyone else. They have the right to a home of their own.

I will believe in the sincerity of those who wear a red poppy when there is not a single veteran living on the streets.

Thanks Nicky, one of my heroines

These are the most common types of faces of sex offenders.

White British.

Starmer had a great example to follow in Blair.

So the insult "bird brain" is totally inaccurate😜
Birds are both intelligent and incredibly agile, yet they are quite small. How do they achieve this with their little brains?
They have twice as many neurons per brain mass than mammals, including primates.
