Conrad Hal Waddington was born OTD in 1905.
His “epigenetic landscape” is a diagrammatic representation of the constraints influencing embryonic development.
On his 50th birthday, his colleagues gave him a pinball machine on the model of the epigenetic landscape.

The welfare state is about dignity, equality, and making people not poor, but as @itsafronomics.bsky.social says/cites here, it’s often also an investment that more than pays for itself
Why should you 🫵🏿 care about SNAP? SNAP recipients saw:
- Improved life expectancy
- Lower chance of incarceration
- Lowers chance of poverty
- Lived in better neighborhoods
- Higher human capital
SNAP keeps our neighbors fed, communities safer, and kids educated. Also people are HUNGRY. DUH!

This is pretty amazing. 🤩
“A new study suggests that these vaccines might boost the effects of immunotherapy drugs, perhaps by alerting the immune system & helping direct immune cells to attack tumors. That’s in addition to helping protect against Covid, which can be particularly important for cancer patients”
mRNA Covid shots may boost the effects of certain cancer treatments, study suggests
The potential reasons that a Covid vaccine would help treat cancer are intriguing.

The MMR vaccine is one of the most stunningly effective medical therapeutics in existence. It’s also safer than most of your everyday activities. This is simply an attempt to stop people from vaccinating.
The acting director of the CDC called for new, separate MMR shots. That would be "remarkably complicated, time-consuming, costly, but more importantly unnecessary," @jasonlschwartz.bsky.social told me:

Alarm as CDC calls for separate MMR vaccines despite measles outbreak
Concerns that three separate shots would be more costly and time-consuming, and keep kids from being vaccinated

Don't forget Thai, and whatever New Zealand's got to offer. Club D ftw!
D, final answer, not even close. You get everything from Mediterranean to Middle Eastern to Indian to Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese, and assorted Southeast Asian, then because you also get Singapore you get world class global cuisine too.
I’d miss a good taco, sure. But easy, easy answer.

I worked for a big tech company that had a search feature. They developed a new feature that would autosuggest the top few results as you typed, and it was wildly successful. Being able to jump to the thing you're searching for, and skip a separate search results page was exactly what users wanted.
Google developer #1: "That's it. Our search engine is simple, efficient, and reliable. It's perfect. We're done."
Google developer #2, presumably: "But wouldn't it be *more* perfect if the first search result was always a robot who mansplained your search results to you incorrectly?"

Access to advanced algorithms (for virtually any social problem) just makes it easier to shove through whatever agenda you have, and makes it easier to hide that you had the agenda in the first place.

Can't wait to see the upcoming paper on conifer carcinisation.
In any event the authors published a correction in which they wrote "Nevertheless, we believe such a specimen corresponds not to a true ichnofossil but to an inorganic (sedimentary or physical) structure."
I think a conifer log is a pretty reasonable alternative hypothesis.

They're aiming for the 1950s but they're gonna overshoot and wind up in the 1890s.
the republican party is a modern day Slave Power and the only way forward for this country is to sweep it into the ash heap of history

Trump knows exactly what's in his bill. It's malicious and he's laundering lies about it to patch up his approval rating and convince Congress to pass it.
Trump has no idea what's in his own bill because even he said don't touch Medicaid. The bill guts Medicaid. It guts Medicaid by $1 trillion. This is a fact, and we are not going to let Fox News or anyone else distort the truth.
Fox News is working overtime to help Republican launder their lies that actually nobody is losing Medicaid

I have very little hope he'll change his vote since the first time it passed the house, but I told my rep (OH-15) to vote No anyway. It took like 60 seconds.
Live in these districts? Time to let your neighbors know what their representatives are up to. Ripping healthcare away from millions, cutting cancer research, setting up concentration camps, while shoveling billions to their friends in tax cuts. All of them need to be voted out. Get to work.
