Trying out @11ty.dev with Webc. Pretty pretty pretty nice! Enjoyable experience so far and is-island a nice addition. Between Lit, Svelte, Astro and 11ty there's a lot of good frontend options these days for a whole range of sites/component models.
Just wanna make websites and apps. Little experiments that last a month and big efforts that should last forever.

Montreal and Toronto people, check out Running Man Press wherever you can find it. Old school small press newspaper, like the old Montreal Mirror or Cult MTL. Worth a read and interesting interviews every time.

Tech workers in general need unions! We almost had one, and I was flabbergasted that others didn't see the value. Guess who lost their job a little bit later?
Over 1,000 Ubisoft workers around the world have walked off the job.

In response to a return-to-office mandate, layoffs, and the cancellation of several games, workers launched a three-day strike.

The workers walked out in response to five French unions issuing the strike call.
Ubisoft workers are on strike: 'We are treated like children'
The strike comes after the publisher revealed plans to cut up to 200 jobs and ordered remote workers back into the office

@bsky.app you should make a feature where you can watch a thread and get notifications if: the author updates the thread or people you follow do or anyone does. Can't believe this doesn't exist actually.

Would be great for certain conversational threads.

“Pierre Poilievre was Housing Minister in Stephen Harper’s Conservative government, which allowed 800,000 affordable rental units to be sold off to corporate landlords and developers. Under Harper, the average home price in Canada went up 70%, and Poilievre refused to do anything about it.”

Definitely getting AI pilled at least a little bit. Hard to argue with the utility of some of these models. Much depends on your job/role but prototyping some code is going really well. Didn't think I'd have this approach and yet here I am.

There are no words to adequately describe the evil here.

Goals!
that classic thing where you start to sit down on your bed just as the clock hits 10:30 when you have all of your lights scheduled to turn off and you think you just died and all that is left is an infinite fall into the terminal nothingness

I find your take reasonable and fair. I will say that as you can see by this person’s consistent use of it, the term “sportsball” just inherently contains the vibe of sneering condescension and arrogance. It’s the language of a grown adult that still sorts the world into dumb jocks and smart nerds.

OK, *ongoing* thread of books to read on Palestine. Some recent, some not at all so recent.
I’ve been thinking on this as I read more. Also how the settlers trigger response that the army uses to validate excessive force.

Also, I’ve concluded 100 Year War on Palestine. Do you have other suggestions for reading? If you don’t mind. I’d actually love a thread if you do. Not that you have to.

Posting a video of the Obamas as gorillas is what tipped you off, but the targeting profiling, brutalization and kidnapping of brown people by his admin wasn’t? The years and years of demonizing every immigrant, the well known fact that he denied housing to black people, like Jesus fuck

No wonder the orange toddler is unhinged once again.

The Obamas are competent, classy, loving, Harvard and Princeton graduates, loved by many, not on the Epstein files, got the Nobel Peace Prize, and gave us a steady economy to boot.

Repost this if you agree they are AMAZING and an inspiration!

one of the greatest human triumphs of my lifetime is the relentless, unceasing, heroic effort by DECADES' worth of doctors and scientists to find a cure for a disease much of the world didn't take seriously for years because it predominantly affected a community they thought kinda deserved it

There is now a Prep medication that is an *every six month* injection.

You know that annoying experience on mobile websites where you need to find the little close button and can't swipe a menu closed?

The solution is simpler than you think.

With basic CSS scroll APIs, you can get built-in interruptible swipe gestures 🥳
