It was great to see James Cameron interview Hamnet co-writer/director Chloé Zhao @am_cinematheque last night.

He definitely loves her film & she made sure to tell him how much she loved T2 - which blew her away as a kid.

Q&A was directing focused & passion for filmmaking sadly not about writing.

[frantically raising hand] ooh, ooh. I know. Because Americans have a constitutional right to vote but don't have a right to open a bank account or drive a car.
Mike Johnson: "Americans need an ID to drive, to open a bank account, to buy cold medicine, to file govt assistance, even to attend the DNC. So why would voting be any different? They can't answer that question."

Magaziner: Mayorkas testified in front of Congress like 30 times. Noem has only been in front of our committee twice, and one of the times, she left because she didn't want to answer questions. It's going to be very different when we are in the majority next year.

He doesn't know if the Census Bureau is part of the department he runs?! Or he doesn't know the Census Bureau establishes the poverty line?

Either way, that's the kind of staggering admission of utter cluelessness that should get this ass-kissing toady shown the door
KENNEDY: The Census Bureau is under your jurisdiction & responsible for defining what it means to be poor, is that right?

LUTNICK: I don't know

K: Well you need to look, bc it does. What's the % of Americans who live below poverty level?

L: I don't know

K: It's around 11%. It's been constant

During freezing temperatures in Port Arthur, Texas, a 61-year-old homeless man was found dead in his wheelchair outside a convenience store.

He was wearing a hospital gown and no shoes. Authorities say he had been released from a hospital the previous day.

This is a diseased society.

1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.

Hundreds of kids are still detained.

Donald Trump hasn't kept his promises, and he knows the American people are ready to hold him accountable.

So now he's promising to cheat in the next election, if given the chance.

We can't give him that chance.

I really liked the direction of the halftime show - great long shots with lots going on.

Also kudos to the dancer who had a costume failure & then just ripped the rest of her skirt off & kept dancing in her shorts, all in one smooth motion.

Had a blast seeing Ben Affleck interview Timothée Chalamet @amcinematheque.bsky.social last night!

Affleck is definitely a fan & multiple times said someone with Chalame’s talents only comes around every 30 years.

I’m going to write the interview up for Backstory Magazine’s Oscars issue.

It's so weird that I can't stop thinking about the 1987 movie "Matewan" with James Earl Jones and David Strathairn about working-class people standing up against private corporations who employ death squads to rob them of their rights and dignity.

It's a mystery.

Why this movie?

Why now?

I dunno
