Not much chatter about Bridgerton Season 4 these days but I’m really enjoying this spin on Cinderella with wonderful chemistry between Yerin Ha and Luke Thompson. So refreshing to have an Asian Australian play a lead role. She’s so appealing as Sophie.

Should have the CEO been fired before letting go so much of the staff.
"Washington Post C.E.O. Quits: 3 days after the paper cut 30% of staff — more than 300 journalists — wiping out The Post’s local & sports coverage, decimating international.. 'One of the darkest days in the history of one of the world’s greatest news organizations'.”

Thanks to @a24 and NewFest I rewatched Pillion last night, the exhilarating first feature film directed and written by Harry Lighton about an unconventional gay romance. Alan Cumming did a Q&A with the director and stars Harry Melling Alexander Skarsgard and Douglas Hodge.

Hi, SNL: Jokes about ICE just aren’t funny.

I’m a big fan of Marc Shaiman’s scores (with Scott Wittman) for Broadway shows and tonight I spent a joyful evening at the @92ndstreety.bsky.social hearing him talk about his new showbiz memoir Never Mind the Happy. Nathan Lane interviewed him and the two of them kept us laughing all night.

Catherine O'Hara as Katharine Hepburn for SCTV.

Genius, genius, genius.

Farewell to Catherine O’Hara. When I saw her for the first time on SCTV, I knew she was comic genius. I was so happy she found more acclaim the past few years and thought there would be years more. She was the best. 😢

An insane, perfect encapsulation of it all:

The same day Trump’s agents kill a Veterans Affairs ICU nurse in broad daylight, the CEOs of Apple and Amazon join Trump to watch a private screening of a film about his wife directed by an alleged sexual abuser who was seen shirtless in the Epstein Files

Alexander Skarsgard has a knack for picking good projects: Murderbot, Pillion and now Wicker which was unveiled at Sundance and sounds like a winner.
‘Wicker’ Review: Alexander Skarsgard Is the Husband of Olivia Colman’s Dreams in a Quirky, Winsome and Enjoyably Tart Fable
Matters of sex and marriage are at the center of Eleanor Wilson and Alex Huston Fischer’s bawdy comedy about the strangest kind of mail-order husband.

This is a beautiful film with lovely work by David Strathairn, Jane Levy and the rest of the cast. I saw it recently at the Museum of the Moving Image with the director and Strathairn doing a Q&A.

It’s possible that Sentimental Value, a beautiful film, may lose in the categories it is nominated for. Which would be a shame.

The government keeps increasing unrest in (blue) cities in hopes that Trump can impose martial law to stop elections this fall. How can we stop this now? The more we protest, the more chaos the government will throw at us. Will MAGA continue to support ICE?

I’ve seen a lot of the acclaimed films of 2025 but I always try to see a movie on Christmas Eve. Today I went to see Song Sung Blue half-heartedly but I wound up really liking it. Jackman and Hudson are wonderful together. The musical sections are well-directed, too.
