Le Bénin et le Niger expulsent mutuellement des diplomates. Après l'expulsion par le Bénin de deux fonctionnaires de l'ambassade nigérienne, le Niger a riposté en déclarant persona non grata le chargé d'affaires béninois. Les deux pays entretiennent des relations difficiles depuis la prise du pouvoir par la junte militaire au Niger et le renversement du président Mohamed Bazoum. Cette escalade intervient aussi près d'un mois après la récente tentative de putsch déjouée au Bénin. Sans citer de nom de personnalités ou de pays, le gouvernement béninois avait dénoncé l'implication de « politiciens béninois nostalgiques » et de soutiens étrangers.

La façon dont la presse minimise ou banalise la représentation raciste infecte de Rokhaya Diallo dans Charlie Hebdo rappelle la fonction particulière endossée par ce journal depuis vingt ans : légitimer le racisme en faisant passer ses victimes pour des rabat-joie qui ne comprennent rien à l'humour.
