An honest statement -- One of the reasons decent Americans are having trouble combatting Trump is that European leaders and Russia have breathed the power of god into the man. We can stand against MAGA, but not Europe and Asia, too.

Stand up to the man. If you don't, how can we?

Some fodder for you @idothethinking.bsky.social read for free via Berkeley Public Library news access. I can attest - my grandparents, parents & self all bought homes near peaks, 1946, 1951, 1985. Mortgage access was reason any of us could buy at all. Kids cannot.
Column | The cities where home prices have changed the most (and least) over the past 130 years
Did your grandparents and great-grandparents really pay less for their homes than you did, even after inflation? The Department of Data might have the answer.

"Food systems are now the single largest cause of humanity’s overshoot of Earth’s safe operating space ... 'planetary health diet' leans hard on fruits, vegetables, legumes and nuts, with modest amounts of dairy, poultry and fish, and far less red and processed meat"
Food is wrecking the planet. And Europe has lost its appetite for change.
A landmark study says food systems are breaching Earth’s limits. Europe once promised to lead the way, but the revolution fizzled.

Why would Democrats throw our support behind a budget deal that any day, any time, Donald Trump could just decide he doesn’t feel like honoring — and without getting anything in return to help families struggling with high costs?

That would be a betrayal of the American people.
Democrats want a deal that will help families struggling with high costs.

At event in DC, Sen. Chris Van Hollen keeps it going with Hakeem
Jeffries over not endorsing @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social: if you can’t back the kind of campaign he ran, “don’t ask those young people to show up for other Democrats across the country — that’s the message that will be sent.”

The guy is choking off democracy. Keep up the pressure. 2026 and 2028 elections will determine if we still have it. If not I think it'll take 5 million of us showing up in DC to convince him.

He can escape to Moscow. до свидания jerk.

From the always great @timothysnyder.bsky.social

"The overall design of Trump’s policy is clear enough: weaken the United States abroad to create an environment friendly to dictators, while using the American armed forces as an intimidation force to make dictatorship possible at home."
Opinion: ‘Show of Force’
“We have to be watchful of our reflexive American militarism. It moves us, mindlessly, towards fascism,” wrote US historian Timothy Snyder.

“They’re living on the fumes of the real Berkeley values. But they’ve come and gone.”
This is true of City government as well. Downtown was handed to developers, and is now just plain abandoned. Homeless are shoved around, not housed.
Trump’s campus crackdown has even Berkeley questioning its protest culture
Berkeley is in upheaval after Trump turned his attention from East Coast universities to the West.

This is what the abundance neoliberals are

Republicans who have no interest in following the majority or regaining democracy for all.

They are dangerous authoritarians and always have been. They in part birthed Trump through their decades of technocratic nothing in place of positive material change
I genuinely cannot believe that Ezra Klein said we should run pro-life candidates in Kansas, Ohio, and Missouri; three states that recently held abortion referendums where the pro-choice side won!

When people begin to catch on to what the billionaires are funding ... and why. In truth closing highway is about playgrounds for developers. One thing not addressed, if Sunset Towers materialize, where's the new, high density, luxury transportation? How do you get people out of their Teslas?

Boomers were deeply turned off to Dem Party b/c both Kennedy & Johnson sent young men die in Vietnam. Dems lost a generation and never fixed it. Just like they lost the working class. Activists worked outside the Dem Party. That's why our boomer Dem presidents were so bad, one GOP + one GOP-lite.
How did my generation – the baby boomers – squander the potential our parents left us?

What can our children do to correct our mistakes?
