Also, the prop 13 bite when we bought was huge relative to neighbors back then too. But now, retired on much lower income, it helps. People generally buy in relatively high earning years. The burden eases over time as pay rises with inflation, somewhat in time to absorb offspring college expenses.

I'm a retired first generation professional woman (engineer) taught to never forget my working class roots. I'm a deeply progressive left coast working class voter - left the Dem Party the day after the election. Most middle class Americans have working class roots, but the well paid ones forgot.

Helpful that Finland was never an empire & wasn't largely mined. The social heritage isn't distorted by hundreds or thousands of years of greed/kill psychology. Survival depended on a certain degree of sharing, not as much robbing & killing as Russia, Great Britain, USA, the Middle East, China etc..
