As a freshman 20+ years ago, my CS professor shared a quote: "Computers do exactly what you tell them to. The bad news is they do exactly what you tell them to." At the time this seemed obviously self-evident.

Now it's clear that in my children's time, this "truth" will become an anachronism.

A powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck off Japan’s northeastern coast on Monday, December 8th, at 23:15 (14:15 GMT).

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued tsunami warnings for the prefectures of Hokkaido, Aomori, and Iwate.

Look, I'm not an AI maximalist, and I do think we're in a bubble. But I think a lot of people misunderstand why engineering managers feel like AI is such a productivity multiplier.

In my mind, there's two things you shouldn't do to engineers you supervise: micromanage or assign throw-away work. 1/n

I was hoping Haskell would be a perfect fit for an LLM because types, but instead Claude bitterly complains about how tedious and repetitive pattern matching on GADTs is, and then marks every implemebtation as undefined when it doesn’t work the first time.
