NOAA cannot just rely on outside providers for weather data.

The costs of deploying and operating upper air, radar, weather station, and buoy networks, and other sensing platforms like satellites are far higher than the $27 - 30M Congress wants to give NMP.

Awful. More horrible science news

"The NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) learned yesterday that the Department of Defense (DoD) will stop processing & delivering the Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder (SSMIS) data no later than 30 June 2025."

NEW: The Trump admin has informed NOAA that two buildings that are critical for weather forecasting will have their leases canceled. If this comes to pass, it's a really big deal. Includes weather fcst nerve center in College Park, Md.: www.axios.com/2025/03/03/d...

Happy to share that my work in collaboration with Leia Otterstatter and Prof. Scott Salesky was just published in Geophysical Research Letters! In this article we used a suite of LES to study the representativeness of measurements by Uncrewed Aircraft Systems in the CBL.

My top Super Bowl memory is when Musk tweeted “Go Eagles” in 2023 from the game and then deleted it after a similar tweet from Biden got more engagement. Then he flew to Twitter HQ and demanded his workers find out why his posts were doing poorly, starting a multi-day fact finding mission.

Hey just for what it’s worth, do you know where every single one of NWS’s daily radiosondes come from?

Germany and Finland.

🤷‍♂️

This is what the government did with 120K+ Japanese Americans in 1942.

I know. I was there in those camps.

Americans will go on vacation to a place that isn’t a car sewer, walk and take public transit for 8-12 hrs. a day, notice a change in their health, and attribute it to “they must not have the Illuminati chemicals here”
Ainsley Earhardt makes a case for RFK Jr: "When you go to Europe, the food is delicious. It's so fresh. And you don't gain weight if you eat a big bowl of pasta. So we want that to come here to America."

Excited to see the culmination of several years of hard work by an exceptional young scientist. Congrats Robby on this publication!
Extremely excited to share that my first author paper with @wxbrain and Scott Salesky has been published in Boundary-Layer Meteorology! You can see this work here:
