WoodPig Press opens to submissions on 5th Jan. We've streamlined and anonymised the submissions process, but we're toying with doing away with samples and just accepting full manuscripts. Then we just stop reading if/when we stop being interested. What do you think? Pros and cons?

Authors: what are your biggest bugbears in terms of submitting to an agent or publisher? What do you wish was different?

It's Substack Sunday! This week's stack follows our founder as he tries to get his book reviewed. A review of the review process, one might say.

We love these Lord of the Ring book covers featured in an article by Giovanni Blandino. Each one represents each artist’s unique vision whilst also refelcting the socio-political circumstances of the time.

Keep in mind that small independent bookshops get waaaay smaller wholesale discounts than Waterstones.

A small shop gets 35-45% off a book when Waterstones have been known to expect 85%
Waterstones to open about 100m from Argonaut, a particularly nice indie bookshop. Quote from Waterstones management makes it sound like they got Argonaut mixed up with the gaming café next door.
