Researching for a Christmas walk in Spitalfields led me to discover that in the early 1900s via a @mirror.co.uk charity appeal a men’s hostel in Quaker St was known as The Palace of Pudding. Thanks to @salvarmyarchive.bsky.social and #BritishNewspaperArchive westminsterwalks.london/the-palace-o...

This chap @paulwhitewick.bsky.social went looking for secret passages in Andover. Experienced tunnel-watchers will be able to guess whether he found any.
Good to see he quoted myself. Hilarious to read a commentator diss me because I work for the government. Which I don't.

Friday news. I have launched a wee charity gift shop in aid of sight-loss charity RNIB. All designs feature my abstract photos. Times are tough right now so no pressure to buy, obviously. But I would love it if you could share. I’m doing this to raise awareness too. tinyurl.com/3wu5t9wy

Thanks to @dustystacks.bsky.social for finding this image of an umbrella/stick stand following my earlier query. I feel the need to seek out further examples now!

A bit niche I fear but does anyone know the purpose of these rubber and metal things on end of pews in a former Methodist Church in North #Chingford? The church is less than 100 years old.

Christmas is constantly changing - before its Victorian reinvention, the Georgians turned it from a private affair to a more public celebration with a nostalgic interest in Old England. This week footprintsoflondon.com explores Christmas with @westminsterwalks.bsky.social & @robssmith.bsky.social

Can anyone help date this street guide more precisely than between 1934 and 1941? The Monseigneur News Theatres opened in 1934 and Queen’s Hall was destroyed in 1941.
