The Sasse / UF story drives home — again — that you shouldn't put "outsiders" at the top of educational institutions. They won't bring a "fresh perspective"; the incentives are aligned for them to do maximal damage in minimal time. Hire people who have a long, verifiable track record in higher ed.

I want a blowout. I want it done by 10pm eastern. I want us dancing in the streets before the polls close in Arizona. I want NC, GA, and OH, and one more state that nobody expected so it makes Republicans cry. I want Ted Cruz to lose in Texas and Hawley to lose in Missouri. I want it over.

It never ceases to amaze me how many problems in America that I was raised to believe had always existed and were a “normal part of American freedom,” were literally just caused by Reagan ruining the country right before I was born.

This is probably how they'd staff the mass deportations, so if you don't feel like ripping apart families–personally, with your own two hands, or sending your sons house-to-house to do it–this isn't the guy to vote for.
🚨🚨Lot of news today but this shouldn't get lost.

Donald Trump and his advisers are scheming to make military service "mandatory" for Americans. JD Vance appears to be all in too.

Get the word out: a #TrumpDraft is coming under #Project2025 👀😳

"Sadly, Walz's anti-bigotry has proved divisive to our nation's proud and hearty Midwestern bigots."
This is a lovely story and you should read it! But I wish newspaper would stop with this framing of “Many were happy, but some, namely his opponents, do not approve.”

Walz is unreal. Peel back a layer and it's yet another Hallmark movie scene. This woman ⬇️ is the principal at his old school. She lived next door to him for 22 years. When her 4 kids became teens, "her family found themselves short on transportation." So, Walz gave them an old car.

It's the 59th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, which *would be an occasion to celebrate, but for the fact that the landmark legislation has been repeatedly sabotaged by the Supreme Court

Voters of color are now less protected than they've been in decades

Happy Birthday to the Voting Rights Act, Which the Supreme Court Has Systematically Destroyed
The Voting Rights Act is 59 years old this month. Thanks to the conservative justices, it is a shell of its former self.

Does that mean we can finally send Elon on his way?
Don't let the rocket booster hit you on the way out. (Or do, it's all the same to me.)

Another reason to give this campaign your all and run through the tape is that a decisive Democratic win on these terms will make all the centrist, overly-cautious, cowardly "Democratic Strategists" who seem to live in cable news green rooms suddenly vanish in a cloud of backroom smoke.
On the one hand I’m glad things are going well, on the other hand I’m increasingly furious at how easy it appears to be to beat the GOP at their own game and how we could have been doing this from the start but the Dems have been too chickenshit to play until now.

That moment wasn't like most of what you probably view from the couch, JD: It wasn't supposed to be about titillation.

Full-grown adults in the upper Midwest just aren't as into performative PDA as you seem to want them to be. 😬 But don't worry, I'm sure you'll find something to cushion the blow.
JD Vance is a really, really warped, sick, angry dude. And yes, deeply weird. ("You're saying Tim Walz doesn't have affection for his wife? I don't even understand that") bluevirginia.us/2024/08/trum...

The lie about the helicopter crash isn't the story. The lie about Willie Brown being on the helicopter that didn't crash isn't the story, aside from Trump thinking all black people look alike. The story is the extended lie about Brown trashing Harris in a conversation that never happened. Sheesh.

Honestly, the most disqualifying thing about Kennedy's bear story is that he thought it'd be a good coverup to drop off the carcass in bear-free Central Park with a broken down bike laid on top. Those brain worms were clearly trying to get back to their natural host and they'll probably try again.

I was worried it was dementia but the NYT would be all over that I know
