Out of the 109 DOGE staffers we've identified:

• At least 38 currently work/have worked for businesses run by Musk
• At least 23 are making cuts at agencies that regulate the industries that employed them
• At least 12 remain, on paper, employees/advisors of the companies they worked at before DOGE
The DOGE 100: Musk Is Out, but More Than 100 of His Followers Remain to Implement Trump’s Blueprint
At least 38 DOGE members work, or have worked, for one of Elon Musk’s companies. Meanwhile, nearly two dozen DOGE officials are making cuts to the same federal agencies that regulate the industries…

As I was saying. Who in the world will take such a country seriously as a partner, ally, or even enemy? If we present ourselves as a joke, should we be surprised if other countries treat us as one? bsky.app/profile/joyc...

Now that Trump has openly admitted he could bring back Abrego Garcia whenever he wants, his lawyer tells me he will use discovery to determine which officials are advising Trump to defy the Supreme Court.

New piece from me with lots of fresh reporting on this case:

How Trump Accidentally Sabotaged His Own Case Against Abrego Garcia
Trump has now admitted twice that he could bring Kilmar Abrego Garcia home, but says his lawyers are telling him not to. This was a very dumb move—and also a very revealing one.

Chasten and I are relieved that Governor Shapiro and his family are safe. While we wait to learn more, this much is clear: the targeting of a public official and his family - especially a prominent Jewish official on a major Jewish holiday - is unconscionable and has no place in our country.

Obama tried to used withholding Medicaid funds as a cudgel to get states to expand coverage and SCOTUS struck it down for this exact reason.
None of this can be done by executive order. Congress, in theory, could pass a law requiring many of these things for national elections. But by tradition, these rules are handled by states. The cudgel Trump is trying to use here is withholding funds. Which he also cannot do unilaterally
election law followers please correct me if i’m wrong, but most of this seems basically unenforceable? like, the president does not have the legal authority to force a resident of virginia to submit a passport to register to vote in the state

Here's a quick summary of DOJ's position in the AEA case: 1) We're not going to tell you who we've detained, 2) we're not going to tell you where they are detained, 3) we're not going to tell you why they're detained, 4) you should've filed habeas wherever they are, 5) whoops they're gone, too late.
