To your dear letter writer who shipped the wrong record around the world: I too have done this. Mixed up orders to Japan and Australia (from the US). Those customers were wonderful though and shipped each other the correct record. I did pay their postage of course.

i knew it was mine because the inside of the sleeve bore the date of purchase, in pencil, in my handwriting. Something i used to do with all my record purchases when i was a youngster.

Got this on release. Years later i was forced to sell bulk of collection due to constant moving/short term lets. Even more years later i was in D'Vinyl Records & spotted a sliver of the 12" spine behind another record on a wall display. Amazingly, it was my copy still there having never sold.

Welcome to Vinyl Santa 2025 For those that are new to this, the idea is for record heads to send each other a package of records to be opened on Christmas Eve. Similar to a regular secret Santa, we ask that participants maintain their anonymity. Participants will be given a recipient to send records to. They can then check out their VS’s timeline to get an idea of what they might be into. We ask that folks send £10/$12 dollars worth of records. Guidelines for records: Ideally from a thrift/charity shop but dollar bin or pulling from own collection is acceptable. Please do not use third parties to fulfil your VS as this has caused delays and upsets in the past. A good VS would be a few records (3 to 5) in good condition. Sending a tat record within a bundle is fine; sending all tat is not. And the records do not have to be Christmas records! This is Vinyl Santa, not CD Santa. Bulking packages so that they're primarily CDs, magazines, DVDs etc is not approved and may result in suspension from future VS's. The instructions… 1. If you wish to participate please drop us a DM with your name and address by Sunday November 9th. If in the UK, you'll need to verify your account to access DMs if you haven't done so already, or use a VPN. 2. There’ll be 2 draw pools: UK and USA. We’ll do Ireland too if there's sufficient interest. 3. We'll aim to let you know who your recipient is w/c Nov 10th. 4. We recommend you stalk your recipient’s timeline for clues as to their musical tastes. As many people are new on here this is a good opportunity to put up some posts to give your sender a few clues. 5. Please mail out in good time and be sure to mark your parcel #VinylSanta. Your recipient will likely receive many record-shaped parcels and we wouldn't want any opened early in error! 6. The tradition is to open parcels from 7pm GMT onwards on Xmas Eve and share photos on BlueSky of what you’ve received. This is important - if you're unavailable then by all means share a photo earlier but please do not leave it until after Christmas. 7. Please don’t participate if you’re not going to make good on your commitment and send a thoughtful and considered parcel.

Those 'counterfeit' records seem to all be of recordings 50 or more years old, which makes me assume that they're pressed in some territory where copyright on recordings is just 50 years, and so are valid there. Similar to the knock off recordings we get in the UK of material issued before 1963.
