If you could use some tales of resilience and hope among continued political mayhem, please read this beautiful thread. And I’m all for @crowshair.bsky.social suggestion for a collab with @robgmacfarlane.bsky.social
Grateful to spend two days on the Klamath watching chinook, liberated by dam removal, return to streams from which they’d been precluded since the Titanic sank. Fish are everywhere, in numbers that stagger the mind & locations that biologists figured would take years to repopulate. Too beautiful.

"with the oil & gas industry alone setting up over 1100 documented meetings here in Ottawa (an average of 5 meetings every working day of the year)" 😳
But also: "If we didn’t have power to make change, these industries wouldn’t spend millions of dollars a year lobbying to try and suppress our voices"

This sad example from Germany illustrates why #CircularEconomy requires systems thinking, not only product redesign. The building’s design and execution were top notch but an ownership change resulted in demolition without capitalizing on any of its many reuse and vaporization features.

I hope Mark Carney is following this closely. Bessent’s comments re Canada gave off similar vibes (not the childish Blue Jays jab).

Looks like the previous #Calgary #CityCouncil took many if not most of the right steps towards more #housing for Calgarians. Given that many newly elected councilors used big words around housing in their campaigns, may we trust them to continue the good work?

Let's hope the large seafood purveyors like #Nestle, #PinnacleFoods, #SofinaFoods, #NomadFoods force their suppliers to provide evidence of their fishing gear marking practices. Voluntary only works if there is market pressure. Why not write your favorite purveyor & ask them about their plans?
Marking fishing gear is key to cutting marine debris, ensuring traceability & fighting #IUUfishing.

@FAO.org Voluntary Guidelines on gear marking offer guidance to tackle abandoned, lost or otherwise discarded fishing gear & enhance safety at sea.

The text is "intended to serve as a basis for identifying balanced solutions and landing zones that can help build consensus"

I'm so tired of hearing that we need to "teach our students how to use AI" when the thing they most need to use it is a critical-thinking skill set that can only be acquired by NOT using it. I'm tired of hearing that it's inevitable. I'm tired.

Why?
- it perfectly fits with the town's ethos,
- it's absolutely #WhatOurRockiesNeed,
- it can be done, as #Petaluma shows.
