So it’s worse than we thought
ICE’s Detention Center outside Chicago was sued on October 30 for allegedly abusing detainees. One day later, a "system crash" lost all video footage that could have shown how detainees were being treated. trib.al/QwT3aqI

This is SO obscure and SO unimportant, but I really want to know the logic/marketing behind the phrase "chip in" when it comes to political causes asking for money. They all use it and they use it almost exclusively. What is it about this phrase they like above "give," "donate," et al?

It doesn't actually matter if Chuck Schumer votes for this or not.

If he can't keep his caucus unified to protect healthcare for over 10 million Americans, he should resign as leader.

Jesus Christ, @kaine.senate.gov, getting a pinky promise to hold one single vote on ACA funding is not "a path toward fixing the health care mess" anymore than a lottery ticket is a "path toward fixing my personal finances"

Seriously.
agreeing to make a terrible deal while your main opponent is quite literally being boo'd on live tv by an entire stadium of people is the kind of political instinct you'd normally only find in a 3 week old dead goldfish

Official statement from @jamestalarico.bsky.social on shutdown negotiations
November 10, 2025 at 12:17 AM
Straight talk! Everyone keep repeating it!
Beshear: Let me be clear. The president has both the funding and the authority to fund snap during a shutdown. In fact, every other president in every other shutdown has done so. People going hungry in this instance is a choice that this president has made.

Recruit a Democrat. Every seat. Every state. Waves need someone to ride them. Call your state party, sign up to run, or volunteer. Make the GOP fight for every inch. Let’s go! No seat left empty!

And this is why the corporate class shut down Teen Vogue.
WOW. 81% of women 18-29 voted for Mamdani, 80% for Sherril, and 78% for Spanberger.

Gen Z women aren't playing around.

Mail in voting with hand-marked paper ballots is literally the most secure, unhackable way to vote, which is why Republicans hate it so much. They'd much prefer you vote on Republican owned voting machines with unverifiable results. If everyone mails in paper, it's nearly impossible to cheat.

This shit is so crazy and so obviously our biggest problem underlying everything and anyone who says otherwise is either greedy or blind

We said what we said
The 400 richest Americans are now worth a record $6.6 trillion.

The entire bottom 50% of America is worth just $4.2 trillion.

Read that back.

When 400 people control more wealth than half a country’s population, we have a very serious problem.

Every single journalist with expertise in extremism I know has been fired or their publication has folded.

Not a coincidence, of course. Grateful for their work, but unfortunately for almost all of us, this work will now have to be the side hustle.

Cruelty is the point.
The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email

There are going to be a LOT of people in thrift shops this year.
And in food banks.
And at holiday soup kitchens.

For the love of CHRIST - now that someone's brought this to your attention, please go through your stuff - for kids *and* for grown-ups - and for once, give some GOOD stuff away.

When idiot Ron Schneider was born in 1963, the infant mortality rate was 29/1,000. It is now close to 5/1,000. So, no, children were NOT healthier when he was a kid. And he was, clearly, dropped on his head.
