The newest projections of physician workforce in the US suggest substantial shortages, even in scenarios with more GME slots and/or increased involvement by advanced practice providers - up to 329,000 by 2050.

Physicians with H-1B visas are more like to practice in rural counties & high-poverty counties.

The new $100k visa fee may worsen physician shortages & access to health care in these already disadvantaged areas.

There's emerging evidence that GLP-1 receptor agonists
could be helpful for treating substance use disorders by reducing the rewarding properties of alcohol, opioids, nicotine & stimulants.

I was intrigued to learn about Respect for the Aged Day (敬老の日), the third Monday in September, a "national Japanese holiday that serves as a time to pause and reflect on how the older generations have paved the way for us."

1- A course of ketamine (up to 8 twice-weekly infusions) was not found to be better than IV midazolam as an adjunctive treatment for moderate-to-severe depression in hospitalized patients.
