This isn’t about me. It’s about all of us.

It’s about a justice system which has been weaponized. A justice system which has been used as a tool of revenge.

My faith is strong. I have belief in the justice system and the rule of law.

With tariffs taking their toll on our small businesses, and everyday commodities like coffee rising in price, I’m making a point of spending my money local to help support great local businesses.

Jimmy Kimmel wasn’t pulled off the air because of his remarks about Charlie Kirk. He was pulled off because of his remarks about Donald Trump. And he was pulled off following threats from the government. That’s exactly what our founding fathers created the first amendment to protect against.

I am humbled to announce that I have been appointed Assistant Majority Leader! This new role allows me to have a more active role on the floor and within the leadership of the Assembly. Thank you to the Speaker and to Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes for trusting me with this responsibility!

Labor is the backbone of our country. Our economy, our infrastructure and our families rely on our unions. I will always fight for workers rights, safety and dignity. Thank you to our unions who make our country better for everyone every day! Happy Labor Day!

Thanks to our friends at the YMCA and LeChase Construction for giving us a tour of the new childcare facility at the Eastside Y! We were thrilled to provide state grant funding to help facilitate this expansion into our Penfield childcare desert and look forward to seeing the kids move in this fall!

I’m kicking off the summer with my local library Adult Summer Reading Challenge! My first challenge is to read a book with a one word title. I am reading Circe! You can join me by stopping into your local library and asking about their reading challenges for kids and adults!

I am honored to be the new sponsor of the Grieving Families Act and to have passed it again this year. This bill was carried for decades by Assembly powerhouse Helene Weinstein, who retired last year. I am proud to be entrusted with this important bill and to continue working to pass it.

The federal Medicaid cuts aren’t just cruel, they are economically disastrous.

There are only 2 bills left: state operations and legislative & judiciary. These bills keep the lights on in our government buildings, SUNY and CUNY schools, DMVs and legislative offices.

We are now on the aid to localities bill. This moves a lot of money to the actual execution of programs like Medicaid, childcare subsidies, raise the age (including funding for the JEDS program), funding for local municipalities (AIM), and correctional facilities and police.

We are already on the Capital, which includes some of our local initiatives, a boost in Upstate Transit funds, critical road infrastructure $, & library capital!

This bill also includes a big investment in our power grid, which is in desperate need of upgrade and is key to meeting our CLCPA goals!

We are on to revenue! Some good stuff in this bill. We have expanded tax cuts to the middle class! We simplified application for the enhanced STAR credit so that it is the same as the federal app, and if only one member of your household is 65, you still qualify. 1/2

This budget also features some great wins for low income families! The baby benefit gives all moms on public assistance an $1800 one-time cash payment after the birth of a child to help defray the costs. We also fund a $50M pilot to help the unhoused by offering rent vouchers direct to landlords!

In BIG NEWS: We are fully paying off our $7B federal unemployment insurance loan that still lingers from COVID. This is big news for business, for workers and for all New Yorkers! We will also pass my bill that increases the UI rate to $869 per week!

We are back! And with a new pope! We just started what I expect to be our longest debate, the Education, Labor, Housing and Family Assistance bill (ELFA). Because there is so much in this budget I will do several updates instead of one long one, but I will start with Education Funding.

It is take your child to budget week here in the Assembly. Due to my husband’s unavoidable business trip, our son has spent part of this week up here in Albany. His arrival corresponded with the beginning of budget votes so I’m going to credit him with breaking that log jam and getting us moving!
