With tariffs taking their toll on our small businesses, and everyday commodities like coffee rising in price, I’m making a point of spending my money local to help support great local businesses.

I am humbled to announce that I have been appointed Assistant Majority Leader! This new role allows me to have a more active role on the floor and within the leadership of the Assembly. Thank you to the Speaker and to Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes for trusting me with this responsibility!

We were thrilled to provide state grant funding to help facilitate this expansion into our Penfield childcare desert and look forward to seeing the kids move in this fall!

I’m kicking off the summer with my local library Adult Summer Reading Challenge! My first challenge is to read a book with a one word title. I am reading Circe! You can join me by stopping into your local library and asking about their reading challenges for kids and adults!

I am honored to be the new sponsor of the Grieving Families Act and to have passed it again this year. This bill was carried for decades by Assembly powerhouse Helene Weinstein, who retired last year. I am proud to be entrusted with this important bill and to continue working to pass it.

It is take your child to budget week here in the Assembly. Due to my husband’s unavoidable business trip, our son has spent part of this week up here in Albany. His arrival corresponded with the beginning of budget votes so I’m going to credit him with breaking that log jam and getting us moving!

During the budget we like to have a puzzle going in the hallway behind the chamber. Members and guests can take a few minutes to clear their heads during the dense and lengthy debates going on throughout the day and night. This year’s puzzle features different kinds of birds!

Today is budget day! Follow me here for real time updates on the New York State budget over the next 2 days. The NY Budget is actually 10 separate bills, one of which, debt service, was timely passed in March. Stay tuned for updates!
