Avoiding the risk of burnout while being an indie game dev is hard

So I will refocus on my initial project ("silenced"), it's writing and doing a vertical slice (the prologue part)

Still want to release a game tho

Testing various design options for the road, the map and the navigation

Keep switching from "somehow realistic" to "arcade and convenient" with hard constraint

The fun is eroding, and I need to put this project aside (will come back to it later)

i have not watched GDT's Frankenstein but i am firm in my belief that it needs a tie-in adventure/fighting game like the 90s Kenneth Branagh one did on the Sega CD. and they need to keep in elizabeth's roll attack

Give the map size, I won't use line segments, but vectors are forever

The map will be scaled for view, is required

I did finish my #godot script to prerender the car sprite 360°

And the tilemap road is still in progress

Small steps, but still

I didn't notice it immediately and I could check the changelog (I know I won't): Not having to kill the #playdate simulator upon code change is nice

Maybe it's new, maybe I just had the habit to carry bricks in my bag unknowingly, but now dev feel better

So I did rewrite a lot of code and still more to go

The road is clunky but functional, & I got a temporary car

I still need to write some tool with godot to prerender the sprites

All in all, the gameplay should really more pleasant & #arcade like

After some thinking, and given the way it'll be played on #playdate, I should ensure visibility of gameplay

Thus, an external view would be even better, more appropriate without sacrificing too much

I get to keep the internal view for some sequences

I need to think about some trade-off design wise

Testing for a "behind the car" view and it's a bit more usable, but the immersion is not the same

Maybe I could reserve the inside view for some sequences ingame

There's a gigantic disparity between graphics on the actual #playdate and the emulator, and not only in terms of fps (idc): (Really) small text is barely legible on real hardware

I know (or think?) it's surely mentioned in the design guidelines, but still

Got the road displayed, somehow correctly

Still have some quirks to iron out

But the core is here

Next: road generation (procedurally, obviously), the different mission types and the transition between them (amongst a lot of things)
